My opinion:
This Beach Road hawker stall sells traditional Singapore seafood and soup. For this food review, I have tasted their tom yam soup with rice for $4.50. There were 2 prawns, 2 pieces of fried fish, 2 pieces of fried doufu, 1 sotong slice, 2 tomato slices, 2 lettuce slices, 6 veggie leaves, 1 bowl of soup, 1 bowl of pork meat with sauce and 1 bowl of rice in my food portion.
Prawns were medium sized and slightly overcooked. The owners were considerate enough to remove the prawn shells for customers. Fish meat was firm and tender. Sotong meat was too small to add any significant bonus points for the food's overall rating.
Tom yam soup was appetizing, fragrant, robust, spicy and warm. Sauce was slightly too salty and did not mix well with the meat items. Rice was well cooked and did not suffer from dryness, roughness or sticky problems.
To sum up, the food here was economical, tasty and would have gain an endorsement from my website (at least a rating of 90/100) had the owners been more generous in giving out meat ingredients. Unless you are a super nit fussy foodie (such as me), Jin Hai Tan should be able to satisfy both your hunger and the craving for tom yam soup.
Ways for the owners to improve their food ratings:
Add more fish meat and sotongs for future customers.
