My opinion:
Yuan Wei means "original tastes" in Chinese. This stall sells traditional Singapore laksa, nasi lemak and yong tau foo. My mother and I have tried their laksa for lunch.
There were 5 cockles, 2 prawns, 10 fishcakes, 2 tau poks, bean sprouts and moderate amount of rice noodles. Egg was considered "missing in action".
Cockles ranged from small to huge size. The large ones were chewy, tasty and filled with seafood flavor while the small ones were so tiny that we had to be observant to spot them. Prawns were rough, small sized and not juicy enough. Although the fishcakes were plain tasting, they were fresh and so plentiful that we could not help feel but feel a great sense of satisfaction.
Bean sprouts were crunchy and well cooked. The food's only weakness lied in the tau pok and soup. Tau poks were very salty and did not mix well with the other food ingredients. Although the soup was not too oily or salty, it was not thick enough and lacked coconut milk fragrance. As we tasted the soup more, we also found that it was slightly too salty (salty taste may came from the tau poks).
In conclusion, the food here was cheap, delicious and had a few small flaws that prevented this stall from greatness. If you are a laksa fan who is not so nit picky, Yuan Wei is recommended by our website.
