My opinion:

This Smith Street hawker stall specializes and excels in traditional Singapore Peranakan cuisine. My mother and I have tried their rice meal for lunch. For this food review, we chose curry veggies, braised chicken meat and otah as our food items.

Curry veggies were crunchy, fresh, healthy and gave our mouths a gentle "massage". Curry was flavorful but not too hot or spicy, perfect for rice meals.

The 2 braised chicken thighs were so addictive, delicious and tender that both of us were immediately converted into their fans. In fact, the chicken meat was among the best that we had tasted in 2015 (extremely tasty and well marinated). Otah was huge, moist, spicy, filled with fish taste and greatly increased our appetite.

Rice was well cooked and did not suffer from dryness, roughness or sticky problems. To push up the food's flavor and ratings, the owners added red chili to the food. It was a very risky move as chili did not mix well with curry. Luckily the chili was mildly sweet, robust, sticky and professionally placed at a dry isolated portion of the takeaway packet.

In conclusion, the food here was heavenly, shiok and could satisfy our monthly craving for Peranakan cuisine. Now, we finally understood why this stall had such a large "army" of loyal followers. Besides the cost, we honestly could not find a single flaw in their food. If you are a fan of mixed vegetable rice, Babas Peranakan should be high on your "must visit" list.

Ways for the owners to improve their food ratings:

They are strongly applauded for their service to Chinatown residents and are advised to continue their good work. We will visit them regularly to check for consistency.
