Will I come back in 6 months' time? No, there are better alternatives
My opinion:
Koung specializes in traditional Singapore wanton noodles. Their main stall is at Geylang Lorong 13 and had a branch stall at Bedok North Avenue 3. Customers get to choose the small $2.50 option or the $3.50 big option for their wanton noodles. I decided to try out the small option for lunch.
When I was about to pay my fee of $2.50 to the lady owner, she shouted loudly at me: "Three dollars and fifty cents!" I was extremely angry and embarrassed. This was extreme dishonesty and rudeness. First, they should not have deceived customers with a fake price tag on their signboard. Second, there was no need to shout over $1.00. Third, this showed their arrogance as they were not afraid of losing me forever as a customer. My friend saw what was happening and told me that the owners were polite to rich bosses but rude to children and women (fake and superficial service).
Let's move on to the proper food review. Since their wanton noodles cost at least $0.50 more than similar Bedok noodles, I expected more ingredients instead. There were 3 steamed wantons, 7 char siew slices and moderate amount of noodles. So what was the difference between their big and small options?
Steamed wanton skin was smooth but too "artificial" and "slippery". It tasted almost like frozen wantons sold in supermarkets. Char siew slices were chewy, soft, tender but had charred and fatty portions.
Noodle sauce was the ultimate disaster for the food. It had a strange bitter and "chao tah" (over-grilled) taste. Noodles were poorly cooked and some portions even stuck together. Red chili was hot and tasty enough to prevent the food from a worse rating.
