My opinion:
Hong Heng means "great prosperity" in Chinese. The owners specialize in traditional Singapore fried sotong prawn mee. For this review, mother and I have tried their Hokkien noodles for lunch. There were 2 prawns, 3 sotong slices and moderate amount of noodles in our takeaway packet. Egg ingredients and lime were considered "missing in action".
Prawns were dry, small sized and tasteless. The owners did not remove the "yucky stuff" from the prawns. Sotongs were chewy, fresh and did not have a pungent smell or taste. Noodles were also bland, dry and lacking in pork or seafood flavor. The small amount of red chili was hot, sticky but too little to gain any significant points for the food's flavor or ratings.
To sum up, the food here could satisfy our stomachs but not the craving for Hokkien noodles. Since this is the only stall in the entire food centre (monopoly) that sells this dish, we will only recommend Heng Heng's food to hardcore fans of fried noodles.
Ways for the owners to improve their food ratings:
First, add some egg ingredients to the food. Second, lime should be a compulsory ingredient for Hokkien noodles. Third, remove the intestines from the prawns' bodies. Fourth, reduce the amount of time in cooking the prawns. Fifth, use flavorful prawn or pork soup to moisturize the noodles.
