Will I come back again in 6 months' time? No, there are better alternatives
My opinion:
Kou Kee has more than 60 years of experience in preparing traditional Singapore yong tau foo. For this review, my mother and I have tried their yong tau foo noodles for lunch. There were 1 fishball, 1 tau kwa with fish paste, 1 plain tau pok, 1 tau pok with fish paste, 1 wuxiang and 1 bowl of minced meat noodles.
All the food items were boiled and were not surprisingly plain tasting. We did not notice any pungent smell or taste emitting from them. Fish paste in the food items were too little to gain any bonus points for the food's flavor or ratings.
Yong tau foo soup was mildly sweet and could be used as an alternative to unhealthy syrup refreshments. Honestly, it was flavorless and completely lacking in the "wow" factor.
Wheat noodles were dry, rough and did not mix well with the pathetic amount of minced meat ingredients. Chili sauce was too salty and lacked spiciness. Yong tau foo sauce was robust, sweet and thick enough to prevent the food from getting a worse rating.
To sum up, the food here was average tasting, expensive and lacking in essential ingredients. Our blog readers are therefore strongly advised to visit other yong tau foo alternatives in nearby coffee shops and hawker centres.
Ways for the owners to improve their food ratings:
First, add more minced meat and tau kwa. Second, review the noodles' preparation and production processes. Third, decrease the amount of salt in the chili's preparation process.
