Will I come back in 6 months' time? No, there are better alternatives
My opinion:
Chung Cheng sells traditional Singapore laksa, pork rib noodles and prawn noodles. This stall has the honor of having the second queue in Golden Mile Food Centre (after 91 Fried Kway Teow). The food here is famous for its amazing chili and well cooked noodles. For this review, I have tried their signature pork rib and prawn noodles for lunch.
The owners were generous in giving me fish cakes and tau pok but not the key ingredients. In fact, there were only 1 piece of pork rib, 1 prawn and moderate amount of noodles. Pork rib was well marinated and soft enough that I could eat the bone. The lone prawn was juicy but small. Fish cakes and tau pok were delicious, flavorful and "soaked" up the chili. Noodles were extremely well cooked, "QQ" and had the right texture (one of the best noodles I had in recent years).
What prevented this stall from getting a visit from me in 6 months' time? Their famous chili happened to be their Achilles' heel. It was so salty that it overwhelmed the tastes of the food ingredients and noodles. My mother told me that certain people loved to eat salty chili but the sad truth is that most Singaporeans are health conscious and will avoid such unhealthy food.
This was my first time visiting this stall so this may be an "one time mistake". Honestly, I really enjoyed eating their noodles and will give them an endorsement from my website (at least a rating of 90/100) if they can solve the salty chili problems.
Ways for the owners to improve their food ratings:
Thoroughly review the chili's preparation and production process.
