Will I come back again in 6 months' time? No, there are better alternatives
My opinion:
Dong Sheng means "rise of the east" in Chinese. This Commonwealth food court stall sells traditional Singapore char siew rice, duck rice, roasted delicacies, dumpling noodles and wanton noodles. For this food review, I have tried their char siew and roasted pork rice for lunch.
There were 7 pieces of char siew, 6 pieces of roasted pork and moderate amount of rice in my takeaway packet. Although char siew pieces were juicy, sweet, soft and tender, I noticed a lot of charred and fatty portions in them. Roasted pork meat was delicious, fragrant and not too oily or salty. Pork skin was soft and not crispy enough.
The food's ultimate downfall lied in the black sauce. It was almost tasteless, watery and totally ruined the rice. Honestly, I did not finish even 20 percent of the rice. This black sauce is a strong contender for the "Worst roasted delicacy sauce in 2015" award (sarcasm) .
In a nutshell, the meat items would have gotten a rating of 80/100 if not for the poor tasting black sauce. If you are a "carnivore" living or working in Singapore west, my advice is give their roasted delicacies a try but remind the uncles not to leave out the black sauce.
Ways for the owners to improve their food ratings:
First, cut out charred and fatty portions from their roasted delicacies. Second, make the black sauce sweeter and thicker.
