Will I come back in 6 months' time? No, there are better alternatives
Jia Xin means "excellent arising" in Chinese. The owners sell traditional pig's organ soup and porridge. For this food review, I have tasted their pork porridge for dinner.
There were 7 pork balls, 5 pieces of pork meat, 2 slices of pig liver, 6 pieces of you zha kueh and moderate amount of porridge in my food portion. Pork balls were addictive, small sized and tasty. The pieces of pork meat were overcooked and rough. Pig liver slices were too little and small to contribute significant points to the food's flavor or overall rating.
The owners were unprofessional to save up on you zha kueh and dumping it into the porridge. Unsurprisingly, you zha kueh was tasteless and not crispy enough. Porridge was silky smooth and did not have any sticky issues. Although the porridge had pork meat fragrance in it, my tongue also detected an awkward pungent rice taste in it.
In a nutshell, the food here was average tasting, cheap and could not satisfy my monthly craving for porridge. Unless you are a porridge fan living in Bedok North, my advice is to give this stall a miss and visit other alternatives in nearby hawker centres (Bedok Interchange, Bedok North 216, Bedok North 538 and Fengshan 85).
Ways for the owners to improve their food's ratings:
First, reduce the amount of time in cooking the pork meat. Second, do not dump the you zha kueh into the porridge. Third, use quality rice as porridge ingredients.
