Will I come back again in 6 months' time? No, there are better alternatives
My opinion:
Yap Kee sells traditional Singapore hor fun, dumpling noodles and wanton noodles. This stall was once voted the as one of the top 10 wanton noodles stall in 2011. Customers get to choose the $3.00 small option or the $4.00 big option for their wanton noodles. I have tried their small option for lunch.
I was given a bowl of soup with 4 steamed wantons, char siew slices, green chili slices and moderate amount of egg noodles. Soup was flavorful, tasty and slightly oily. Wantons were the smallest that I had tasted in recent months. The wanton skins did not mix well with the meat ingredients (major minus points). Char siew was soft and tender but had a significant flaw. Why did the owners chop the char siew into small little bits?
Egg noodles were incredibly dry, tasteless and thin. I had to keep drinking the soup in order to finish the food. The owners were stingy in giving out noodle sauce and this greatly worsen the dryness problems. Noodle sauce was also mild tasting and not thick enough. Chili was hot, mildly sweet and "powerful" enough to prevent the food from getting a worse rating.
In conclusion, the food here was average tasting and could not convert me from a bystander to a fan of wanton egg noodles.
Ways for the owners to improve their food ratings:
Add more noodle sauce and avoid chopping char siew into very small pieces.
