Will I come back again in 6 months' time? No, there are better alternatives
My opinion:
Soon Heng specializes in traditional Hong Kong roasted delicacies. For this review, I have tried their $3.00 char siew and roasted pork rice for lunch. There were 8 pieces of char siew, 5 pieces of roasted pork and huge amount of rice in my food portion.
Sadly, the food quality cannot match the excellent food quantity. All the meat items were bland, dry and tasteless. My nose and tongue did not detected any charcoal grilled fragrance. Roasted pork pieces were small sized and did not have crispy skin. Rice was the ultimate downfall for the food as it was fluffy, soft and did not mix well with the watery sauce. Chili was hot, spicy and robust enough to alleviate some of the tasteless meat and rice problems.
In a nutshell, the food here was cheap but had too many obvious errors that beginner cooks would not make.
Ways for the owners to improve their food ratings:
They are strongly advised to grill the meat items for a longer time, review the rice preparation process and use a new kind of sweet sauce as the current version is really terrible.
